Self Care on a budget

Self Care on a budget

I have an Allotment, which at the moment, looking out of my window into the dark and gloom, I miss.

I love my allotment; it’s not expensive and provides me with a place of peace and solitude. So I get self-care on a budget.

My allotment provides me with solitude

I find my allotment not only allows me to grow my food. During the Summer lockdown, it provided me with the solitude I needed for my mental Wellbeing.

For example, last summer, my husband and I were on the allotment. As part of the ‘allotment ritual,’ we always put up the fishing umbrella. It’s almost a tent and keeps us dry if it starts to rain.

If it does, we usually pour ourselves a cup of coffee and sit together chatting about what we have achieved, that day while we are having lunch.

This particular day, I was sat under the umbrella on my own, sipping my coffee, and the rain started to fall.

I could hear the pitter-patter of the raindrops as I sit back in my seat watching the steam from my coffee winding towards the sky.

The sound of the rain momentarily transports me back to when I was camping as a child.

I feel at peace

The singing birds and the smell of the wet earth after the shower made me feel at peace.

And then after just a couple of minutes, my Husband sits down for a nice cup of coffee, and we start to chat.
